Why I Love Ikea’s As-Is Corner

Nisse Folding Chair in Yellow and Pink

The original price for Nisse folding chair is RM49 each and the yellow one was bought at RM27 and the pink one at RM34 from IKEA Malaysia‘s As-Is Corner. This chair is suitable for big-ass people like me. Can nicely park your butt and pretty comfortable too. I wish my parent’s house is filled with colourful Nisse folding chairs…. *grin*

Media Preview of The Amazing Race Asia Season 4

Thanks to Chris Tock, Joseph Wee from ICON, the good people from SPE Networks Asia and Roots Asia Pacific, I managed to attend the media preview of the Amazing Race Asia season 4 at the Zeta Bar, Hilton KL Hotel on 15th September. The hotel is just a stone throw away from KL Sentral which makes it easier for me to avoid the notorious KL traffic jam and nope, I didn’t bump into Paris Hilton that day despite all the rumours…

Rabiatul Adawiyah was among the first to arrive and followed by yours truly who reached around 6pm.

Check out the cute flags!

The kind people at Zeta Bar served us with a variety of drinks and finger foods. Yum.. yum…. yum… Oh, and I did bring back a few of those cute flags!

Speech by the sponsors

The event was kicked of by the Chong sisters from Malaysia, Pamela and Vanessa, the 2nd place winners from season 2. As usual there are some speeches made by the sponsors and one of them even took off his jacket to reveal………… Jeng…..jeng….jeng….. *big grin*

Top: Khairie and Ethan Bottom: Ivan and Hilda

Then Pamela and Vanessa introduce us to the two team that represents Malaysia. They are Khairie and Ethan, the Friends team and Ivan and Hilda, the Husband and Wife team. Watching these two teams on the stage ensures one thing… This season of The Amazing Race Asia will be filled with laughter!

And the race in ON!

The moment we are all waiting for…… The first episode of The Amazing Race Asia season 4…. Sorry people no spoilers here but… When I said this season will be filled with laughter earlier, I was right on! One of the contestant from the Malaysia team might just steal the limelight in the opening episode. Watch how the ten teams struggle with their first roadblock and one of the team even managed to ‘kidnap’ a local just to show them the way.

This season features the first father and daughter team from Indonesia and another first mode of transportation is being used in The Amazing Race Asia. The winner of this first leg walks away with a Sony Bravia 46in TV and a Playstation 3 each. Dang, what a combo! I’m officially jealous right now… You guys need to watch it to find out who and what.

For the first time ever, The Amazing Race Asia will premiere online first, one whole week before its on-air broadcast. Unfortunate people who don’t have a good TV access like me, can log on to www.axn-asia.com/tara to catch the first episode online. The Amazing Race Asia will be on-air on AXN channel on 23rd September as they just finished their filming and now is in post-production of the series.

Interviewing the two teams from Malaysia

Not only that, we were given the opportunity to get to know the two Malaysian teams after the preview. Our group, consists of the local media and us bloggers were ushered to this lofty lounge at the 7th floor of the hotel.

Left to right: Hilda, Ivan, Ethan, Gayle from SPE Networks, Michelle from Singapore aka Rebel Pals team and Khairie

I’ve found out that both Hilda and Ivan were fellow INTIANS from Sarawak and the main reason they join this race is for their ten-years-old daughter. Beware, Ivan is not a typical ‘ang moh’ as he can speaks and understands Bahasa Melayu very well and Hilda is a real chatterbox that could speak non-stop.
Ethan and Khairie are both graduates from Monash University and these boys are really funny people. These two friends actually went to Genting outdoor park and tried out all their scary rides and roller coasters just to tame their phobia of heights.

Oh goodies!

Some goodies from the sponsors such as Axiata, Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Caltex. Thanks alot guys!

Oh yes, we (heart) the cute rubber ducky too..

I shall end this post with…. Let’s embark on the ride of a lifetime this season with The Amazing Race Asia and…
*quack* *quack* *quack*
We All Love The Yellow Rubber Duckies!

Do check out The Amazing Race Asia Facebook Page to find out more details and activities for this season…. Even some wacky pictures of the contestants!

P/S: Nope, didn’t see Allan Wu at the preview that night *heart breaks*

Super Awesome Raya Hamper

You know your Dad is involved in a serious business when…….

No. 1: He received this heavy Raya hamper from our long-time contractor. I know it’s heavy because I’m the one who carried it into the house. -______________________-

First Raya hamper for this year

No. 2: He received this super-awesome Raya package from a secret admirer. Super-awesome because it’s from Harrods!

Second and the last Raya hamper for this year

We never received such luxurious gift before so naturally I am curious to how much the Harrods Raya package costs. Google it and voila!

From left to right:

Pink can: Gold All-Butter Chocolate Chunk & Cherry Biscuits (200g) £6.95

Green tall tin: Opulence Decadently Rich Dark Chocolate Biscuits £9.95

Black and gold tin: Luxury Sweet Biscuit Assortment (400g) £14.95

Purple can: Gold Dark Chocolate Chunk Biscuits (200g) £6.95

Black and Gold... Such classic

Yikes…. That’s easily cost more than RM200! O_____o
And you know what? Us girls are more excited bout the cans rather than the cookies itself. My mom already booked the Gold Dark Chocolate Chunk Biscuits can, my sis the Opulence Decadently Rich Dark Chocolate Biscuits tall tin (by far this is the nicest cookies in the lot), my other sis Gold All-Butter Chocolate Chunk & Cherry Biscuits pink can and me the Luxury Sweet Biscuit Assortment tin. Can’t wait for the tins to be emptied… *big grin*

P/S: I love the ‘rollover to zoom’ feature on the pictures posted on Harrods online store. Pretty cool! *Local online stores take note*

RIP Marco The Cat

This post has been dormant since April 2008.
Yup, haven’t touched my ‘Draft’ folder that long.
This is a story of Marco the cat, one of the ‘lost’ cats that we took into our family. I wasn’t there on the day he died but my mom told me that most probably he was hit by a moving vehicle but managed to find his way back home… with all the blood running down his ears and nose.. and died on the porch..

marco1.jpg

I wouldn’t say Marco is a stray kitten or cat to begin with. He had a unique way, coming into our household.
One day, my younger sis was using the desktop at the common area. Suddenly, she felt something fell on her head and freaked out.

marco2.jpg

Then, she saw a small kitten laying still on the floor. She frantically shouted for my mom and my mom ran upstairs towards her.
Both of them stood there for a minute, feeling sad and trying to figure out what to do with the dead kitten.

marco3.JPG

Suddenly, the small kitten moved and slowly gaining its composure. My mom and sis was so suprised and shocked! The kitten had fell from the ceiling, about 20-30 metre high and survived the fall! It was a miracle indeed!
And that folks, how Marco the cat came into my family.

marco4.jpg

For the next few month, we shared good and bad times with Marco. Watching him grew up, helping my parents to train or discipline him and getting myself the usual bites and scratches from him. I remember the day I went to pick him up from a boarding place after our Raya balik kampung trip, he actually looked happy to see me.

Hey boy, it is an honour to have you in our life. Even though your time with us was short, we will never forget you.
As strict as I am as your step-mom aka trainer, I do miss you.

Pos Malaysia Has Done It Again

I have to admit…. I do have this love-hate relationship with Pos Malaysia.
Hate them after what they’ve put me through when I used their Pos Ekspres service.
Love them that their other services are quite good…. Until….

Pay attention to the RED BOX...

My sister received this note from Pos Laju. Notice the date? 7th August is the first Saturday of the month and Malaysia’s post office doesn’t operate on that particular day. We thought, hey, maybe that date is a special day where they would actually open the post office. WRONG!! We went to check out the post office and true enough, it was closed. Now, WHICH SMART POST OFFICE STAFF THAT ACTUALLY WROTE DOWN THE DATE?! What, they didn’t have a calendar in their office is it?! *sarcastic tone*

Ikea’s Raya Cookies

Alrighty then… First and foremost, being late as usual, I would like to wish Muslims all over the world (especially in Malaysia) a blessed Ramadhan. Now that we have completed half of the journey, most Muslims in Malaysia already started their preparation to celebrate the upcoming Aidilfitri.

I know it’s a good thing to have a new set of attire for the celebration but I’ve already have more than 20pairs of ‘baju kurung’ and ‘baju kebaya’, all in very good condition. So, I’m not going to buy any new clothes for Aidilfitri. See? I am happy wearing my current traditional attire…. Unlike some people… That just have to buy traditional clothes EVERY YEAR despite the old ones are still in good condition. *evil grin*

Anyway, one thing all of us have to buy every year is….. Fresh supplies of Raya cookies. Eons ago, my family would have the most agonizing experience to either:-
1- Find and buy good Raya cookies or
2- Try to make them ourselves.

Since the past couple of years, all our misery is no longer haunting us! Thanks to IKEA Malaysia, we have no problem when it comes to good and tasty Raya cookies anymore. OK, below are some of the Raya cookies that being sold in IKEA Malaysia that we have QC-ed and passed with flying colours!

Pineapple tarts

All-Malaysian favourite, the pineapple tarts. Don’t be fooled by the simple look of these babies. They tastes good. Now, if only it comes with macadamia nuts, then it would be perfecto!

Butter Semperit

Behold the mother of Raya cookies in Malaysia, butter semperit. This cookies got the highest level of approval from my family and declared THE BEST SEMPERIT in our modern society. It tastes heavenly (seriously, I can’t describe it) and it’s not too brittle or too hard. It reminded me of the same semperit made by our elders in kampungs (heck, perhaps even better). Based on the ingredients, this butter semperit would be the perfect cookies to be served to your non-Muslim vegetarian friends (correct me if I’m wrong ya) that come and visit you during Aidilfitri.

Chocolate Hazelnut

Now here is something a little modern. This year is the first time we bought this chocolate hazelnut and was kinda skeptical in the first place. After buying and tried the first box, we actually went to IKEA Malaysia again to buy more of these. It tastes like Ferrero Rocher chocolate but without the melted chocolate around it. I would say this would be a perfect treat to kids (and chocoholics too).

Here’s the thing… From what I heard from my parents, who went to IKEA Malaysia (again) last weekend, these delicious cookies are running out…. FAST. So you guys better hurry up and at least grab a box of each just to try it out… *big grin*. Oh ya, did I tell you that each box only costs RM10? *wink*

P/S: Dang, IKEA Malaysia should really give me a commission for this… Perhaps another 10boxes of each cookies?! XD
