How To Use Dylon Multi-Purpose Dye
I have this pink cardigan which accidently got mixed with a red shirt during a wash… Hence, huge light red patches appeared on one side of the cardigan. I actually cried a little when it happened as it was my very first and favourite cardigan.
I don’t want to throw it away or recycle it in anyway because other than the light red patches, the cardigan is still in good condition. So it lays dormant in my closet, until one day…..
I was walking around in a shop when suddenly this particular rack caught my eyes. It displays a variety of Dylon multi-purpose dye colours. Naturally, since I love blue colour, I took a block of No.19 Deep Blue dye and hopes this would help to revive my beloved pink-soon-to-be-blue cardigan.
There are some general rules and helpful hints provided in the instructions. Just read it before you start with anything.
Below are the method for dyeing the cardigan as I followed the instruction given:-
1- Wear rubber gloves. Weigh dry fabric. Wash thoroughly, even if new, to remove stains or dressings not visible to the eye. Leave damp.
2- Fill a rust and heat proof vessel with sufficient water to cover fabric and allow easy movement during dyeing.
3- Pierce tin with a knife. Dissolve contents thoroughly in 500ml/1pint of boiling water. Add dye to vessel.
4- Add 30g/1oz salt per tin. Stir well to dissolve.
5- Put in damp, unfolded fabric. Bring to simmer and then dye for 20mins., stirring constantly to ensure even coverage.
6- Rinse fabric until water runs clear. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
Voila! Now my pink-already-turned-to-blue cardigan is ready. Instant new dress, for less than RM10. *big grin*
Ok.. Ok… my photography skill n dyeing skill aren’t top-notch yet but at least now I wear the cardigan out without inviting any weird stares from other people.. hahahahaha…

Jac: From my observation, the colour won’t come off after the treatment but to be on the safe side, I only wash this cardigan with my other dark colour wash & soak it with lesser time.

@DiEsE: The cardigan looks great! Where can we buy Dylon Multi-Purpose Dye in Malaysia? In particular, Penang? How much does it cost?
