First Trip To SPCA Selangor
Living up to my reputation as one of the dullest blogger around, I shall TRY to make this post as dull as possible…. *wink*
Somewhere in the middle of January 2010, I decided to make a trip to SPCA Selangor. The mission?! To find & adopt a pet?! No..no..no..no… I’m very happy with the 2+2+1 brood that I have now (my 2 cats, my family 2 cats & the resident stray cat). I was there to gave away some of my stuffs such as some of my soft toys, old gifts & souvenirs that they can sell it off during their jumble sale.
It’s not that difficult to find the place. Thank goodness for Google map! While SPCA Penang does accept recycleable such as papers, plastic & aluminium cans, when I contacted SPCA Selangor, they only accept animal shelter related items such as pet foods & items that they can re-sell during their sale.
Upon reaching the place, we went to the office, pass the volunteer in-charge my box of stuffs and asked her whether we can visit the cattery or not. She pointed to us the area and off we go!
For the first timer visitors to animal shelter, I would love to share some tips with you… ![]()
1- Wear comfortable clothes and preferably long sleeves shirt, long pants/jeans & sport shoes/sneakers. Reason being that any point of time, you may come in contact with the animals there… whether you welcome it or not. I remember once a dog tries to pee on my shoes.. Lucky managed to shoo that fella away..
2- Try to avoid any physical contact with the animals there. There is no ‘No Petting’ rule here but generally you don’t know the temperament of… say, a particular cat or dog. I have my share of getting scratches from the cats at animal shelters. *wink*
3- Don’t simply bring any pet foods and feed the animal by yourselves. These animal are feed according to the schedule and their dietary need.
4- Please confirm with the shelter if you wanna bring your cute pooch along. I know they didn’t allow feline visitors for good reasons. T__T
4- Last but not least, don’t be afraid/alarmed if whenver you pass by the dog kennel the dogs are barking furiously at you. They just wanna attract your attention, that’s all.
As expected, the place is kept in order and the dogs & cats we have seen are generally in good condition. There is even a resident cat hanging out near the cattery… Outside the cage… I bet this fella is too old to go anywhere else. It greeted us with the normal leg rub and welcoming meows..
This mommy doggie and her cute pup is one of the new arrivals here.
I (heart) the black cat on the top right picture above and the white cat with baby blue eyes on the picture below.
Personally… I strongly recommends & suggests that people out there that are looking for dog or cat companionship, visit your local animal shelter/rescuer regularly and be on a lookout. It might take a while but you never know where & when you will find the right dog/cat. Rather than spending some amount of money to buy those cat/dog from pet shops (and indirectly supporting mill breeders), you might as well put in that same amount of money (most of the time, much lesser) supporting the local animal shelter/rescuer in an exchange for a lifetime companion (certified healthy some more.. okaayy..)
Oh ya, I would love to share this cat adoption success story here. This is very creatively written as it tells a story for the cat point of view!
SPCA Selangor will be having ANOTHER jumble sale (yes, I missed the one on 31st January 2010 as stated on the banner in the first picture) on this coming Sunday, 28th February 2010. Come join the event and do your bit for charity. Who knows, you might come across one of my soft toys… in mint condition.. at a bargain price.. *wink *wink*
SPCA Selangor is open daily, including weekends & public holidays (so no more excuse for not being able to visit them) from 9am to 4pm.
